I puchased a Rockwell International folder this past weekend that was full of info from the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project (ASTP) launch. I am new to any space memorabilia but have always been interested so I was excited to get this folder. The thing is that I can not find much info about the attached documents. There is the following in the folder: - Two invitations from Rockwell to their Launch Operations Center with envelopes
- A photo of the ASTP prime crewmen with information on the back in English and Russian
- ]ASTP Launch "Key Telephone Numbers"
- "Welcome To the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project Launch" agenda
- Apollo Soyuz Test Project Mission Profile
- "Space Shuttle: America's Reusable Space Transportation System" fold out shuttle model information
- "Apollo Soyuz Test Project (ASTP): A Meeting in Space" folded 1/50th technical drawing of the rocket and information
- "Space Shuttle Trasportation System" July 1975 booklet with heaps of information about the space shuttle
- An Apollo 15 patch, which may have just been put in there over time.
Were these folders given out to the attendees of this launch? Any information would be appriciated if anyone has seen these before. If not, please let me know if photos would be helpful and what to take pictures of. Thanks! |

What you have appears to be a public relations folder put together by aerospace giant Rockwell. These were handed out at the Kennedy Space Center Press Site the morning of the ASTP launch. They were not available to the general public. Now if those "two invitations from Rockwell to their Launch Operations Center" are addressed to certain people, then this folder was likely given to company VIP launch guests. If they are unaddressed then this industry promo package was acquired by a member of the news media at the time. |

Thank you so much for your reply. The invitations are not addressed. Exciting stuff. |

With this particular ASTP welcome folder, it may not had been for news media reps covering the mission if there were no media releases included, but rather for Rockwell invited VIP launch attendees. Sometimes the VIP folders would include Rockwell-produced mission cloth patches and related jewelry inside them along with all the welcome literature, photos, tickets, and agenda schedules for their space center briefings, tours, and sometimes the company launch parties. | |
