I recently acquired these 17 silver gelatin photos from the estate of Daryl Mitchell. My understanding is that Mr. Mitchell was one of the NASA photographers in the mid 60’s and these are groups of sequential photos taken when the Ranger IX probe landed on the moon in March 1965.

I thought that they made for an interesting story but would love to learn more about them. Any insights?

Ok, lets start with a more basic question. Was $320 a good price?

Generally speaking, there isn't a large demand for imagery from robotic missions. There are some exceptions, in part driven by the aesthetics of the imagery, but most of the photography collectors (among the space memorabilia community, at least), focus on human spaceflight.

That said, as a precursor to the Apollo missions and with the renewed interest in returning the moon, these photos offer a nice insight into how we first got to know the lunar surface before landing humans there.

With regards to what you paid, if you are happy owning them, then yes, $320 was a good price.
