I stumbled across this Armstong autograph on a local online marketplace. It says it has already been sold for 900€.I am no expert, but to me it seems a bit unusual. What do you think? |

In my opinion, a fake. A waste of a red serial number glossy. |

An unfortunate way to spend 900 euro. |

The number of fake autographs is mind boggling. I have seen almost every Apollo era astronaut forged and some are fairly good fakes. We had 36 forgeries sent to the American Space Museum so far for auction but thanks to Ken Havekotte, Steve Zarelli and Gerry Montague who help authenticate our listings none made it to market. (All were turned over to the Florida State Attorney for prosecution.)These fakes are not only in space collecting but sports, music, historic autographs, political and as with the Apollo 13 cast signed, movies. It is sad that a collector cannot buy any signed item without having a professional authentication these days as it seems there are more forgeries then real signatures. |

The FBI a few years ago estimated up to 80% of autographs on eBay were fraudulent. |

For that very reason, I have only ever bought one autograph from eBay, and I ran that by four cS members of note before taking the plunge. |

Speaking of the FBI's estimate, the guy also offers other 'autographs' of other celebrities. The guy seems to be up to something. |

I believe that number comes from quotes related to the FBI’s Operation Bullpen forgery sting in the late 90s. I believe that it’s been taken out of context and somewhat distorted. An 80% fake rate may be accurate for certain high-risk autographs. Michael Jordan, Michael Jackson, Mickey Mantle , etc. It certainly does not apply to all autographs in general. |

Right in time for the 50th anniversary the same guy as in the original post tries it again. This time without effort. However a second Armstrong autograph on paper is offered. What do you think about this one? |

The others are so bad, I wouldn't buy the third unless it had a full LOA by someone like Steve Zarelli. Even then it is overpriced. |
