Sold recently on eBay (382498900834) for $7,095 was an Apollo 11 crew signed litho with very suspicious signatures. The Armstrong signature is of the style seen on Armstrong WSSs and Apollo 11 photos sold and distributed by Peachstate Historical Consulting for several years around 2000.

Penciled on the back of the litho was "Haecker Collection." An Earnest Haecker was claimed as the source of the forgeries sold by Peachstate.

Years ago Peachstate requested that all of the Armstrong WSSs and Apollo 11s they sold be returned for a refund, but this sale indicates that an unknown number are still in circulation.

Hopefully the unlucky buyer of this Apollo 11 will see this posting and contact the seller for a refund.

Note: click on "The listing" at the top left in the blue band of the new lot to be transferred to the actual lot in question.

Interesting information to know Bob. Too many fake autographs being sold on eBay. Buyer Beware.

Thanks for posting this, Bob. Now that we are nearly 20 years away from that fiasco, there are many collectors who may be seeing this information for the first time. Obviously, there are still Peachstate / Ernst Haecker items on the market and this one did its share of damage.

Bob, what is interesting to me is that after all these years, when one of these signature types come up, they all come back to Peachstate Historical Consulting, Inc. There were only "one hundred" of these Heacker forgeries sold.

Times and opinions do change over the decades.

Not sure what you are driving at, Larry. Are you implying that this this style and "Haecker Collection" came from sources other than Peachstate?

Has the claim that "only 100 were sold" been verified independently?

Steve, what I thought I said was that all these signatures types always come back to Peachstate. There is no other sources. Just Peachstate.

There are many unanswered questions relating to the sale of Armstrong, Collins and Apollo 11 signatures by Peachstate. The quantities sold were listed by Peachstate, but unsubstantiated and no follow-ups on how successful he was in contacting his many buyers and the number removed from circulation and refunds given. Unfortunately, some, like this $7,000 example, continue to be sold and distributed.

Also the name Earnest Haecker remains a mysterious part of the saga, with no proof that he even existed. Peachstate stated that he passed away soon after his material was said to be purchased by Peachstate.

And, yes, Peachstate was the sole and original seller of the large number of signatures deemed to be fake by the space autograph collecting community.

All times are CT (US)
