So, I'm intrigued by the voluminous "flown" items I've seen on eBay. Parachute remnants, tape, screws, X's made by a pencil that had been flown...If be interested in purchasing a few if the cheaper items as conversation pieces, but I don't want to be ripped off. Are these items for real? Seems to me anyone can make a COA on their home printer. Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you! |

Caveat Emptor. Many representations of parted out pieces/fragments asserted to be either flown or from a specific mission that are not so or which cannot be traced definitively back to original heritage (precisely because it was fragmented from a formally intact artifact). |

Regarding whether anything "flown" you see on eBay was actually flown, the answer will depend on the specific item, but there are many such items and probably a good number of fake items too. There are authentic Irwin flown pencil lead Xs on cards for example, and many flown remnants of rope from Apollo 14, and foil from various spacecraft affixed to certificates by various reputable people here on cS, etc. It's probably best to ask about individual items here if you have questions about a particular item. | |
