There are two vintage Grumman Apollo lunar module models on eBay. One has a ladder with flat rungs, one ladder has round rungs.

Is one version earlier than the other? Is one version better/more collectible?

I have the same early Grumman contractors model and mine has round rungs, and of course the front porch is missing on that model.

The model with the flat rungs looks to be in such great condition I wonder if it is a well done reproduction? There are several subtle differences between my model and that one.

If not it is about as pristine an example as I have ever seen.

Looked at my LM models and found a third ladder version — thick round rungs. Thin round rungs on eBay version.

Typically, the round rung ladder is the earlier type: the pressed ladder common to later examples. And there is some evidence to suggest that the finish and "quality control" on the earlier models is superior.

But on the other hand, the earlier models are finished with a clear lacquer that yellows more than later examples particularly if in a sunny or smokey environment.
