Jean Wright, one of the volunteer docents at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, reported that one of her demo thermal tiles has gone missing.
A black 6"x6" tile encased in plexiglass. It has a few chips in the corners; but otherwise doesn't look too bad. It has the ID no. of VT70-191***.
This is a training tile and not a flown item. It was taken yesterday from the docent's station at the Space Shuttle Atlantis building. Please keep an eye out for it. Thank you.

This is why we can't have nice things.

This is unfortunate and I feel for Jean, though of all the things they could have taken, an unflown tile is probably one of the easier things NASA can replace (given their existing supply still available to educators and museums).

Hopefully, the publicity (the news of the theft made it to the front page of Reddit) will lead the culprit to come forward and return the tile.

All times are CT (US)
