A lucky occurrence happened in my life today! And I truly cherish them because they seem to be few and far between. I ordered a used copy of Gene Cernan's "Last Man on the Moon" online for a few bucks and even "splurged" for a hardcover. Much to my surprise, the book showed up today signed, uninscribed, and a true first edition, first printing! Score!

I am curious though, the book had a "Compliments of Coca-Cola" label on the inside and in doing some googling, it seems a number of other books of various printings seem to have this same sticker. Does anyone know anything about this relationship between Cernan and Coke?

Called them in Atlanta. I'll update response, when and if they respond.

Hey, thanks! I was starting to think this one may go unsolved.

I'm sure this isn't the only book Coke has given away before, probably far from it. I suppose it wouldn't even be strange for him to be at an event sponsored by Coke, but it seems like there are more than a handful from different years. Curious.

I have a copy of "Moon Shot" signed by Alan Shepard that has a sticker on the dust jacket touting the "TBS television event." I have always thought that my book was perhaps a perk offered to employees of that company.

Great score on your book! I attended a trade show years ago where one of the speakers was a self-help guru of some kind I had never heard of before or since. Each attendee was given a signed copy of her book. Each book had a "Compliments of" sticker with the name of the sponsor. Probably a similar situation.

Oh, and in case you are dying of curiosity, the speaker was lousy, but not as lousy as her book.

Wasn't it TBS that made the documentary called "Moon Shot"?

Yes, TBS produced and aired the documentary based on the book.

I cannot say for certain, but I believe the TBS stickers were added to books being sold at certain locations (e.g. the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex).

All times are CT (US)
