I would like your opinion on these signatures; they don't look like autopens, but are they real or pre-printed?

Thank you for all your help.

Hard to tell without looking at an angle to indicate any ink. Besides that I personally do not like it.

What does it say underneath the Swigert? The.... is it some kind of invitation or banquet pamphlet honoring the crew?

When I zoom in, the Swigert particularly bleeds out from the lines like a stamped signature but I'm leaning towards a preprint. It would be typical that a printed pamphlet have an emblem with preprinted signatures. That's my guess.

I agree with the previous posts. They look like preprints to me too.

Thank you for all your replies. It's a certificate of appreciation from the Apollo Spacecraft Program Office, Manned Spacecraft Center and the Apollo 13 is a beta fabric patch bonded onto the certificate.

Would you mind posting a full picture? I have not seen a Beta cloth with printed text like that. I am intrigued.

Seeing the ad makes me think these could be authentic. I was wondering why the Swigert would go through the word 'The' if it was a printed item... bad placement for printing. Also, it explains the way the top of the S in Swigert and the top of the J in James touches the beta and looks funny. If the paper is a thick fibrous mat type paper, that could explain the slight bleed out too.

With the whole picture now, Beta cloth emblem, thick paper, fancier font, etc., I'm changing my mind and gonna say it's good! But could only be 100% if it was in hand to examine. I guess I could drive a couple hours north of me and look for myself. It's in Ely, MN.

I would tend to agree. This looks good to me and it is a very unusual Apollo 13 award I have not come across before. a very nice piece.

How about that! I finally made a worthy contribution to this site. Found something that's unusual and never seen before.
