Please see the attached photos of a Challenger presentation with signatures. I told and showed the seller whoever put this together used Columbia's STS-1 launch as the background photo.I told the gentlemen who is trying to sell it that I would get the community's opinion on the signatures.

No way am I an expert but to me, Smith and Resnik's signatures seem too big. Also, did "Resnik" dot the 'e' instead of the 'i'? |

I also am not expert, but I don't like then at all. As Hart says, the Resnik has the E dotted instead of the I, the Jarvis looks off, so does the Onizuka. In fact they all do. I hope for his sake I am wrong. |

Thanks for those who have replied. I have my own opinion, but wanted to know if other more experienced members like Steve Z. or Florian N. would care to chime in. I want to provide the seller with the best possible opinion from the field of collectors and dealers. I didn't want him to feel like I was trying to take advantage or anything like that. Thanks again for all that offer their thoughts on this subject. |

Gary, Ken Havekotte is one of the most experienced members on here. If he says it is bad, it is. He has been on the collecting business for quite a long time and really knows his stuff. |

I earlier shared my opinion with Gary via email, but for the record, I agree with Ken and the others who said these signatures are not authentic. |

You have to admit it takes a lot of nerve to forge that many signatures on one piece. |

I wish I had kept my Challenger signatures which people here said were forgeries, as a comparison, because these look similar to what I had. (They were on two or three album pages, and included - by coincidence or not - Dick Covey, who was the Capcom at the launch.) They went to the recycling bin. |

For my own records, I have kept copies of many signed 51-L pieces, including the majority of Challenger tragedy signed covers and photos that were processed at the KSC/Cape area postal facilities in Jan. 1986. From the samples here, only two in my opinion are "somewhat close," but still far away from being authentic. Those two are Scobee (using a printed version) and McAuliffe. But the forged signatures of the other five are terrible in my opinion and for a variety of concerns. |

In my opinion all signatures are bogus though very well done (unfortunately). They may certainly fool a lot of collectors especially if these signatures would be individually offered. |

Thanks to everyone, Ken, Florian, Robert and others. I had a chance to purchase this piece a couple of weeks ago, but turned it down with some quick Google search examples along with my examples. I know the seller is trying to sell the piece and would hate to see it being tossed around the market. I pointed out the similar details to him like the incorrect dotted "e" in Judy's last name along with the size of Mike Smith. I thought the "G" and "J" in Greg Jarvis were off. Along with the similar angled stance of Ron and Ellison's signature. I told him that those two signatures look like they were signed with the same hand, but different ink. Thanks to all and keep your eye posted if this pops up on the open market. |
