For those that collect crew signed material, especially space shuttle crew signed covers, perhaps the rarest crew signed covers of all the 135 shuttle flights are covers signed by all seven STS-51L Challenger crew members.

It's been estimated that possibly fewer than a dozen complete, 7/7, STS-51L crew signed covers exist and they may be the rarest of all the 135 shuttle flights.

So for those ambitious collectors who strive for a complete space shuttle crew signed cover collection, or even for the first 25 shuttle flights, finding a complete 51L crew signed cover has probably been a big problem.

But now one is available and is in RR Auction's current auction ending on August 10. It's lot 308 and is now at $733, with a low EV of $1,200.

As a space shuttle crew signed cover collector, its selling price will be of interest to me, and indicate to some degree the popularity of crew signed space cover collecting.

This actually raises a question (somewhat related) for me: when did the "insurance cover" thing stop being a thing?

All times are CT (US)
