Any thoughts on the value of a flown STS-135 flown US flag? I'm in the market for one, but, I haven't seen one for sale and would like to know what to expect. Thanks for any thoughts you may have.

Just looked at the STS-135 OFK listing. Last item on the OFK list is 20,000 small USA flags. I haven't turned up one of these locally in the KSC area, but I'm guessing there are a lot of them someplace.

I sent in a FOIA request a few years ago requesting info on ST-26 flag numbers and was given the answer of about 10,000 and a further request indicated, but not with much certainty, that about 10,000 small USA flags were flown on each mission. I know that STS-26 flown flags and STS-91 flown MIR flags are the ones I see the most often.

By the way, a quick search found a purported eBay sale for an STS-135 f;ag at $1999. In my opinion, it probably wasn't a real sale, but if it was I'd have gotten the buyer's phone number.

Current prices reflect an imbalance of supply versus demand as the majority of the awarded flags will probably be held by the recipients for some decades.

However, as noted above there are a huge number of these flown flags out there so long term there will be more and more available on the secondary market and the prices are sure to drop.

In the end I can't see them being worth more than STS-1 flown flags, although they may always be worth more than the most common intermediate flight flags (STS-26 and 91 as noted above).

All times are CT (US)
