Found old NASA reel to reel tapes. Radio presentation of Special Report NASA #55 with Chris Kraft on Apollo 11 dated July 1969. Says on bottom of box to return tape after broadcast (to NASA). What are these? Have several of them... |

These were produced by NASA public affairs on reel-to-reel, and vinyl, for distribution to radio stations around the world who wanted "NASA Reports" about Apollo and beyond, but didn't have correspondents on site. These were all hosted by Willard Scott, and provide in-depth interviews with not only astronauts, but also key administration personnel like Patrone, Low, Gilruth, etc. They occasionally pop up on eBay, more in vinyl than in reel-to-reel. I have about 40+ of these from Apollo, Skylab, ASTP and Shuttle on vinyl, and often digitize them for my own research. We talk a bit about these public outreach programs in our book, "Marketing the Moon." They are a great PAO keepsake. If you have access to a reel-to-reel player, they are worth listening to. |

I have a few of these in reel-to-reel format. I had one from 1972 digitized a year or so (at a commercial outfit) and the resulting sound quality astounded me - absolutely perfectly clear, as if Willard Scott was in the same room as me. |

Tom, I have some more of these tapes, I put one up on eBay for 10 bucks, you think I maybe should kinda not do that anymore? Might be they are something I should hold on to! |

Amazon or Barnes and Noble have it. You can also get it direct from the publisher (MIT Press), or on eBay, I'm sure. But if you want a signed copy by myself and co-author, Astronaut Central still has some signed copies available at cost from a prior SpaceFest signing. |
