I've been in talks with this seller about this item.I bought a forgery last year and, thanks to you all and Steve Z, managed to get my money back. My budget is a little low, so I offered a much lower price so that this might make a reasonable place holder for me. Thoughts? It has a certificate from a Sanders auction. The photo is a bit damaged, which would make a counter-intuitive forgery, but I suppose those exist too. |

I like the signature but not so keen on that particular photo. |

That was more or less my feelings. I think it's a fair placeholder for $1K, had I $2.5K, I would have sought either the common official portrait or the one with the A11 crew with the big globe or even a footprint shot, but the price was right for me at $1K for an uninscribed 8x10 long as the signature was the real deal. |

You're right; the price reflects the photo. At least you have one.My best hope for an Armstrong is an index card! One of these days... |

Alan don't despair. I bought an inscribed WSS somewhat faded on eBay a couple of years back for $450. Well it was actually $500, but I had an eBay coupon that gave me 10% in eBay bucks so the net was $450. They pop up from time to time. I was surprised it went for that, but I did have it verified and it was good. So keep watching.

Best of luck in your quest to find an Armstrong signed index card, Alan. I went that route as well and was lucky to find a nice one at a very reasonable price and had it certified by Steve Zarelli. I'm in the process of figuring out how I want it laid out for framing.I had to sell some other items in my collection to justify such an expensive index card, but they were things I was ready to part with, and it was well worth it in the end, in my opinion. I honestly thought that an Armstrong was the only moonwalker autograph I would never be able to acquire, but things worked out in my favor. I'm sure they will for you, as well. |

I owned that exact photo for a brief period of time. I emailed photos to various experts I trust and they didn't express any immediate concern. Of course, if you want more confidence, contact Zarelli. The photo is in rough shape but that autograph is very nice. |

jonspace, small world. Yes, it's seen better days, but it will have to do for now. Good to hear the signature appears above board at this stage. I plan on sending it to Steve. Thanks! |

I have seen this image of Armstrong previously and the images posted seem to be unusually high contrast. I can't help thinking this may be a scan of an original, signed portrait photo.I may be wrong... but I would recommend closer examination of the the image in my opinion. |

I would also recommend close examination of this photo, as other copies I've seen of this particalur image have usually been higher quality photographic prints. This one has an odd look to it. At a minimum, do an examination of the ink to make sure it has been applied on top of the photo surface and is not part of the print itself (which would indicate a reprint or copy). Also, for what it's worth, my opinion is that collectors should avoid purchasing "placeholder" or "filler" items...hoping to find a better item someday down the road. There is less satisfaction in owning a sub-par item that isn't really what you want. Collectors should buy the best they can afford...and save their money to purchase the items they truly desire. Let those less-than-perfect items go by...since more items are continuously coming up for sale. Also, by buying less-than-perfect items, collectors often end up paying more (in the long run) to eventually get what they truly want. It can be difficult to sell off those less-than-perfect "placeholder" items without taking a loss. |
