I have a Deke Slayton FAI sporting licence which I purchased at a Regency-Superior auction a few years ago. I was wondering if there was any way I could get a letter of authenticity and if so from who and how?

I have a similar license from Walt Cunningham who provided a great covering letter for his one. Thanks for any advice in advance.

I am working with the estate of a late friend of mine he bought many items at auction that belonged to Deke Slayton. There were a number of badges and membership cards, each came with a COA that was signed by Michael Orenstein. It states that the badge "was handed to me personally by Bobbie Slayton in January 2005."

I have some listed now on my eBay site Ewaldsattic, which you can view. Maybe yours came from that same original lot?

Just checked and my badge purchased from Aurora in the Fall 2003 auction.

Tempted to email Michael Orenstein and ask the question as I'm sure this was before the COA thing became a big deal and this item couldn't be faked.

Sadly, Michael Orenstein died in 2012. Bobbie Slayton died in 2010.

With regards to the FAI sporting license, I don't think any type of COA is really needed but you could check with the FAI to verify the license is in their database.

Thanks Robert, I totally had forgotten about Michael's passing.

I think I'll put something together as it was going to be used for display purposes.

Thanks again.

Mike Orenstein wrote me, that he most likely sold Deke Slayton's covers flown on board ASTP. They are on my want-list. Does anybody of you know anything about one fo them?

I have seen flown Beta cloth patches but not flown covers. That would be an awesome addition to my ASTP collection.

In addition to the flown beta cloth patches there were a number of four inch flown ASTP patches available with Bobbie Slayton COAs. Goldberg sold most of them.

All times are CT (US)
