Does anyone know of, or recommend, a vendor who will make made-to-order flight jackets with no minimums (one-off)? I'm interested in an MA-1 or similar pattern in heavy twill-type fabric.Jacket would be for casual wear, I don't need a flame-resistant shell or compliance with any particular industry/safety regs. Also would be a standard adult men's size, no unusual measurements. I've tried Gibson & Barnes; was told they don't do one-offs in anything outside their standard color palette. Everyone else I've come across is either a re-seller or does custom work exclusively in leather. I'd prefer a domestic (US) maker, but I'd consider anyone at this point depending on lead time and shipping costs. Any suggestions? THANKS! |

I know of a few companies who make custom-made military wear mostly for movie companies. They could make what you want but it would be VERY costly indeed.I facilitated the making of a Vietnam-era US camo uniform for a movie production and for one actor it was well into 4 digits. But man, they did an amazing job. You could also check with an outfit like this and ask if they could make am MA-1 for you: flightjacket.com. I'd love to have an MA-1 done in the NASA gold fabric, one I could wear and not worry about damages like I would a 'Still the Right Stuff' one... |

Try Pop's Leather in Adana, Turkey (they also have a store in Incirlik, but I believe most of the work is done in Adana). They can make just about anything, and they have the ordering process down to a science. You make ALL the measurements they tell you to make (there are quite a few), and then if for some reason the jacket does not fit, they will pay the shipping both ways back to Turkey to make it right. The MA-1 they are showing on their site is made out of leather, but they should be able to do it in another fabric. They will also sew in a blood chit or do other modifications if you wish. Their A-2 jackets are really very nice. I had my airline A-2 jacket made there, and they also installed a zip-out "thinsulate" liner in mine for those cold Chicago mornings. | |
