The General Services Administration (GSA) is now auctioning the shuttle crew hatch access vehicle used at NASA's Dryden (now Armstrong) Flight Research Center in California.
The Crew Hatch Access Vehicle consists of a stairway and platform on which is located a white room equipped with special orbiter interface seals. It contains pressurized filtered air to keep toxic or explosive gases, airborne dust or other contaminants from getting into the orbiter during crew egress.
The bidding is now at $787 with five days remaining.

On the one hand, what an interesting, unique, and historic item from the space program. Here is a photo of it being used after the landing of STS-1... it was through that door that the crew first emerged to see Earth again.

On the other hand, watch out for hop ons. You're gonna have hop ons.

The auction description says the white room has to be removed by the winning bidder — does that mean it is not included in the auction?

Also, the truck is a 1995 model, so this was not used before then obviously. I suppose this white room and other hardware was transferred from another vehicle?

I don't believe this particular vehicle was used as far back as STS-1, but you can see it behind the STS-126 crew here.

With regards to having to remove the white room, my guess is that it means the vehicle is not "street legal" with the white room attached. It must be removed and transported separately before the truck can be driven off property.
