Does anyone know the source of this Apollo 11 Glass? Are there glasses for other Apollo missions? I seem to remember that Shell gas stations gave them out in the 1960s, but I am not sure. |

They were given out by Marathon Oil by buying $3 in gasoline. Four glasses were made, Apollo 11-14. They also had a juice set with pitcher. Glasses were produced by Libby Glass. |

I never heard of Marathon Oil. Do they have another name? When were they produced? |

Florida Today's Moon Landing Memories mini-site includes a photo of a collection of Marathon Oil/Libby Apollo glassware.Given that the Apollo 14 glass depicts Shepard hitting a golf ball off the Moon, which was only revealed once he on the surface, the glasses must date to 1971 or later. (The Apollo 13 glass also references the explosion and correctly identifies the crew as including Swigert.) |

I also have several Apollo 11 glasses that are similar but have the "rocket engine" on the bottom that can be used as a shot glass. |

I have a glass which is identical in size, shape and style to the Apollo 11-14 glasses, and uses some of the same artwork as on the Apollo 11 glass. But it commemorates the July 1972 opening of the Neil Armstrong Museum in Wapakoneta, OH. I bought it at the museum last year. (I also have a set of the other four glasses.) |

These are fun to collect but there's no need to spend $10 on a single glass. You can often find these 10 for a dollar on eBay. Also you need to hand wash these if you want to retain their vivid colors from 40 years ago, the dishwasher seems to dull the colors very quickly. |

There are two versions of the Apollo 11 glasses. On one has the moon under July 20th date. The second (supposed to be the rare one) has the American Flag same location.Galactic Voyager did list having the whole set (with Carafe) and with Apollo 11 flag glass as roughly $60.00. I have seen some eBay boxes of these for auctions. |
