I may be mistaken but this looks like someone has paid a lot of money for a bunch of autopens.Any thoughts? |

They look more like attempted copies than autopens to me... |

Autopens or printed copies Autopens. Either way the buyer is in for $1,800 of disappointment somewhere down the line when they realize what they've bought. |

How can you see that it is a autopen? I have also such photo...
I find it always strange, is it real or not? |

Well the Collins signature looks okay to me but the Armstrong and Aldrin are definitely dodgy. |

That'll teach them to be more careful about the way you snipe something. $1400.00 jump in the last few seconds at the auctions end. |

Not real. All three signatures are classic Autopens.

Thanks for the info, but I have one photo that is sure real! Got it from himself, Mr. big mustache ESA astronaut Wubbo Ockels -- is that real or not, what a mustache. |

No reserve, yet a leap of $1422.77 from the second to the third highest bid. What's with the $0.77? All other bids in round dollars?Do I smell something fishy? |

The .77 comes from the next bidder below's maximum bid of $1777.77. The bid increments are $25.00 between $1,000.00 and $2,499.99. |

I appreciate the $25 increment from the second highest bid of $1777.77 but why that from a straight $350? |

If you look at the key final bids in chronological order: - 19:34:51 PST $301 max bid from (68)
- 19:35:25 PST $1777.77 bid from (520) which at this point would have been a winner at $306
- 19:35:29 PST $320 bid from (32) which would have pushed (520)'s winning bid to $325
- 19:35:30 PST $355 bid from (68) which would have pushed (520)'s winning bid to $360
- 19:35:33 PST >$1777.77 bid from (1377) winning at next lowest max bid (520)'s $1777.77 + $25 increment = $1802.77.
And it's all over, with (520) paying $1802.77 for a nice set of three Autopens. As Brucie would say - Didn't he do well? |

Regarding apolloprojeckt's crew photo, am I seeing things or did the machine start the "B" in Buzz, stop, move to the right and then create the signature? |

Thanks for the explanation Chris.'Didn't he do well?' -- Depends if you're the buyer or the seller! |

Possibly. But I suspect the operator of the autopen machine accidentally brushed the litho against the tip of the pen as he/she placed the item on the table of the machine. |

As Mike Collins is fond as saying "you can get a good bottle of wine for about ten dollars". |

Are you sure about this?I just looked closely at the Armstrong signature. The l in Neil differs from the closest pattern I could see on edgeofdarkness(4) as does the two strokes in the A of Armstrong? What is the opinion of Frank Garo? It doesn't look like a preprint either, from my memory (which could be wrong) Was this actually a bargain? |

No it wasn't a bargain, and yes I'm 100% sure that it's an Autopen.Small variations in individual strokes are common in Autopen signatures. In fact the eBay Armstrong in the first post is a particularly distorted example more reminiscent of examples sometimes seen on covers. Why so distorted? I'm pretty sure it's because the AP operator applied this signature unusually close to the edge of the litho. That meant that the litho wasn't held in place particularly well which led to the paper slipping beneath the pen during some of the strokes. |

Looks like these items have reared there heads again or the seller has another pack of these "signed items." |

Just wonder if the original 'winner' of this lot got word from somewhere as to what they were getting for their money and decided to not pay up in the end. |

Note the change at the end of the description. This time the seller has added "This item is being sold as is". |

Interesting though, if you look at the sellers eBay feedback (as left for buyers) he gives the buyer of the previous item good feedback. Unless that was before he stopped his payment.... |

I understand that someone from this thread contacted the buyer, and advised them of the nature of the items, and that the seller was then decent (very decent, in my opinion) and refunded the money paid.Honest seller, fortunate buyer, and now relisted with a description that is accurate and upfront. Whoever buys this must now know what they are getting. |
