Well, it just has to be real... read his guarantee: Although I have no real direct proof, I guarantee this to be a 100% piece of the Moon brought back by the Apollo Astronauts. The paperwork he displays is a poor quality copy of the commemorative customs form that was widely distributed as a souvenir. I predict this sale will be short lived... and highly suggest you save your $5,000. (Reminder: There's no statute of limitations on the theft of government property and attempting to sell fake government property is prosecutable for fraud...) |

That's what hooked me. But, even if there was a good provenance I am not going to jail for a rock, even a moon rock. |

That would be "Jailhouse Rock" then? |

It's gotta be real. It's a TOP-rated seller who got it from a TOP Grumman engineer who in turn got it from a TOP NASA official. And even if it's not, $5K is not too much to pay for a genuine Fred Haise autograph. |

He was given this small Moon rock by a top NASA official for his work on the Lunar Lander, and for the occasion of the birth of a baby daughter when Apollo 11 was still on the Lunar Surface. Obviously Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were not the first men on the moon. |

Haven't you seen the "Carbon Creek" episode of Enterprise? Tripp, after hearing that first contact with Vulcans was much earlier than he thought: "This is like finding out Neil Armstrong wasn't the first man to walk on the moon!" T'Pol, deadpan: "Perhaps he wasn't." |

Misplaced modifier here -- while I agree that this rock likely originated in someone's backyard, I think he intended to say that the "daughter" was born while Apollo 11 was on the moon, and the "moon rock" was gifted some time later ...in fantasyland. |

The sale ended Saturday evening with a rather odd public acknowledgment by the seller that he was knowingly "circumnavigating" the law... Hey, Mr. Know-It-All? Did you know that it is against the law to surpass the speed limit, but guess what... folks do it every day, Including YOU. Just because it is a written law, does not mean it cannot be circumnavigated. Apologies folks... there is a real piece of work who is SO jealous of this item, that he cannot even bear the fact that it is real... he is also a stool pigeon, as watch this auction disappear thanks to him. So may sour apples...how can a guy like that even enjoy even a simple Sunset? Can't |

Um, wow. Robert, are you the "Mr. know-it-all" perhaps? I like his use of 'Circumnavigate.' It makes him sound like Magellan. |

No, I never contacted him (unless he was sent a link here and is commenting on my post). |

I'm sorry to say I'm the "Know It All" who contacted this guy and his response was so over the top, as to be borderline insanity. This guys name is Jim, he emailed me saying he wanted to meet face to face so he could beat the $%&t out of me and left me his phone number so I could call him the next time I'm in Seattle. He rambled on about showing me some "northern justice" for my calling his auction a load of BS and a lame attempt to rip off an unsuspecting collector. At least now I have a good reason to go to Seattle. |

Just on a point of historical accuracy. Magellan didn't actually circumnavigate the globe. He died before the voyage was completed. Nevertheless, the analogy seems appropriate. |

If you go to Seattle, visit the Museum of Flight. I was there many years ago. It's a great place. |
