After looking at this auction item and the description, this does not appear to be something that would have just fallen off the space shuttle and the weight seems high from comparing it to the shuttle tile I have. Other opinions? |

I don't know exactly what it is. It looks very familiar but definately not from a shuttle. I am curious what they are basing thier assumption on.Terry |

If they are trying to imply by "believed to have fallen off of a NASA space shuttle" that this is a piece from Columbia's breakup, then what they are doing is illegal and should be reported to the authorities whether this is a real piece of shuttle or not. In my opinion, the general buyer looking at this page would conclude that the person is trying to sell STS-107 debris. A report can be quickly and easily filled out to NASA OIG about this sale if you wished to report it. |

Call me cynical but I don't think it has ever been near a shuttle, I think they are implying it has in the hope it gives a lump of junk some value. |

I agree - doesn't look like anything space-related I can recall seeing. All the more reason that they should be queried on what they are implying they have for sale. |

I have copied and pasted the sellers remark below my question to him. quote: Kind Sir. The item you are listing is not from a space shuttle. Shuttle tiles are snow white, black or gray and all are individually serial numbered. Your implying that it fell from a shuttle indicates it would have come from The Columbia STS-107 which would make it an Illegal sale item. There are numerous serious collectors that are concerned and offended by this claim. One or more of these collectors are considering turning you in on the basis of this claim to this website. I would ask that you remove this item immediately before someone turns this in. These serious collectors have a great respect for our fallen astronauts and I would ask you show the same respect. One other fact Shuttle tiles they have such low density that a single tile only weighs a few ounces are almost 2 inches thick and are very fragile as you can crush the material with your hand. Someone may possibly turn this to ebay as a misrepresented item also. Heads up and good luck.
Reply below. quote: i said it was from A space shuttle NOT the COLUMBIA STS-107 read better next time thanks!!!!
Oh well, go figure.About forty minutes after posting the above information here,I filed a complaint on him for trying to pass off a bathroom or floor tile as a Shuttle tile. Terry |

If it is a shuttle tile (lol), why on Earth is there a hole right in the middle of it? Definitely bathroom material. Chris. |

Though this obviously doesn't authenticate the 'tile' being offered on eBay (which I agree, does not appear to be from the space shuttle), there are authentic thermal tiles that include holes as part of their manufactured design, such as these on the OMS pod: |

Looking at his photo of the back of his tile it appears to have that red clay color of flooring or bathroom tile. Thanks for the unusual photo though. It just burns my biscuits when someone tries to rip off people. Terry |

I used to work in the plumbing department at Home Depot. What this jerk is selling is a bathroom tile that was drilled to allow copper pipe feed line to pass through it.I'd like to know when he/she states that it is beleived to have fallen off a shuttle... who believes it? Certainly not us. Tim |

Aren't we all being a little unfair and hasty? It may have fallen from a Shuttle during an orbital makeover to the on-board bathroom, easily done, put it on the window ledge, go for a fag, bit of turbulence, GONE! |
