In my collection, I like to display photos alongside my space memorabilia. But I'm having trouble finding three specific photos: - In the Armstrong Family auction, I won the NASA patch from Neil's X-15 era flight suit. There are many photos of Neil in the outer pressure suit, but I haven't been able to find one in the orange flight suit with the patch visible. Such a photo may not exist, but I'd love to have a copy if it does.
- I also won Neil's training-used eye patch, used for adjusting one eye to darkness for reading the stars. Any photo of Neil wearing a patch would be much appreciated, but this one is even more unlikely to exist.
- I'm also looking for a specific photo of Dee O'Hara with John Glenn. The photo is easy enough to find, but only at very low resolutions. I'm hoping someone has a source for a high-resolution version of this photo:
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for your time!UPDATE: The Dee O'Hara photo has been sent to me by another member, so I just need the two Armstrong photos (if they exist at all). Thank you! |

A reader sent me an email with some very interesting photos from the X-20 program, including one of Neil in an orange pressure suit:In addition, the new documentary "Armstrong" has a really great photo of Neil in his flight suit (unfortunately with the patch facing away from the camera): I happened to see Rick Armstrong recently, and I asked him about the patch. He said that they didn't alter any of Neil's items, so Neil would have removed the patch during the program. I suppose that means it could have come from the outer pressure suit, the inner flight suit, the X-20 suit, or any of the others, presuming they had the same patch type. It's strange that so few photographs exist from this era; but since I can't be certain either way, I think I'll just frame his patch with one of these photos. And I'm fairly certain that no photos exist of the eye patch. There are very few photos of the simulator training to begin with, so I didn't really expect one to exist. So I doubt there will be any new discoveries. I want to thank those who replied for the photos they sent, and I want to thank anyone else who helped look, even if you didn't find anything! |

Just wanted to say that I respect your efforts to find rare photos related to, or even picturing, items in your space collection. I love doing that myself. I can think of a couple of examples when finding the right photo was almost as good as obtaining the actual item! | |
