I am downsizing and was wondering if there is anybody interested in Space shuttle Press kits? I know with the internet the information contained in the press kits is widely available. These are original press kits. If anybody is interested, email me directly using email address in profile. If nobody is interested, recycler will get them. Thanks.------------------ John Macco Space Unit #1457 |

I have an updated list of the shuttle press kits. I also have a list of launch day cancelled press kits for $5 each. Those who have emailed me about the original post, email me again so I can send you the updated list. |

Since I have not received any more interest in the press kits, they are going to the recycler today. |

Why don't you sell them on eBay or Listia or some other online site? |

What is Hipstamp? Never heard of it. I have a stack of press kits next to my desk. It has been there for years. I intend to sell them on collectSPACE with many other space items some day soon. I am accumulating a box of space items to list on eBay. I will probably list the press kits in a few lots with many photos. Press kits are important to space collectors. Before you sell the press kits, it might be a good idea to scan each page. It is time consuming, but in the end you would have something useful for the future. That reminds me - I scanned all of the back issues of the Explorer to a very large file on my computer many years ago. I remember having the file on my desktop. However, now I cannot find the very large file. I have had three new computers over the years. Somehow the Explorer file got lost. I have a computer guy who repairs and installs my computers. He says that the file is probably on a large external storage unit where he placed all of my old files. I have looked there but all of the files have long code names. I am in touch with him and I hope that he can find this file and some others that are missing. At one time I was scanning all space articles from Popular Science and many other science magazines. I can't find that large file either. If you decide to scan the press kits, be sure to make a copy of the file on CD or some type of external storage just in case your computer crashes or is ruined in some manner. |

There is little need to scan space shuttle mission press kits, as NASA has already done so and put them online: |

That is great. Thanks. It will save all of us a great deal of time. That does not mean that your NASA press kits are worthless. Space collectors will still want to collect the original press kits. This is like visiting the USPS site to see all of the stamps that they have issued and actually having an album of the stamps or a booklet of stamps or a sheet of stamps. One thing to consider is that you can take any NASA press kit and have it cancelled on the cover in an appropriate city with space stamps (if possible). The approaching Apollo 11 anniversary would be an appropriate date for such a cancel on an Apollo 11 press kit. |

An original Apollo 11 press kit is worth more without having stamps and anniversary cancels added, then without. The press kits being discussed here are shuttle-era. With the possible exception of the press kits issued in the early 1980s, there is really no difference between a copy issued at the time and one printed today. Once distribution began online, most paper documents were just printed on demand on commercial copy machines (in other words, and quite literally, Kinkos). |

Perhaps I should have said "for me" the original NASA press kits with a cancel on the front is interesting. All of the NASA press kits that I personally have will be sold soon all without any cancels. John seemed to be disappointed that his press kits did not sell here. I just wanted to remind him that NASA press kits do have value to collectors, that is why I have been saving them all these years. |
