This New England Astronauts patch pays tribute to every astronaut born in New England from Alan Shepard, the United States' first human in space, to Jessica Meir chosen in 2013.
The focus of the design is the view of New England from orbit. The familiar shape of Long Island (which lies just south of Connecticut), Rhode Island and Cape Cod in Massachusetts direct us north to Maine. The original 1686 Flag of New England is shown with an Astronaut Pin as a symbol of the past and future. I chose this flag because it was used by colonial merchant ships sailing out of New England ports. The silver hexagon and the six stars in the sky represent each of the New England states. The 25 stars around the border, the International Space Station orbiting above and the full moon at the top pay tribute to the contribution of the 25 New England astronauts.
The design was created by artist (and Connecticut native) Tim Gagnon, who has worked with NASA astronauts helping them design their mission patches since 2004. These will be sold as part of a fundraiser for to help bring astronauts up to New England. Only 50 will be made. $30 includes free USA shipping, $5 shipping worldwide.  |

Changed my mind: Down to $15. Only 50 made and based on sales, we will never do it again. Cost to design, make, market it and ship them makes it an ineffective fundraiser. |
