Government Shutdown Sale for a friend! For sale is a very rare Lockheed Martin acrylic display for the X-33 Venture Star with an embedded first hardware metal chip from the start of vehicle production in July 1998.
The X-33 was to be a technology demonstrator for a single-stage-to-orbit spaceship for the NASA Space Launch Initiative, which was investigating designs for a space shuttle follow-on vehicle in the early 2000s. The X-33 design was de-funded by NASA in 2001 after a series of structural failures in the composite-material fuel tank, but the real legacy of the X-33 may be the eventual reappearance of the high-efficiency Rocketdyne aerospike engines (with a non-bell-shape nozzle) which were designed and tested for the vehicle.
This acrylic is approximately 3.4 by 4.4 by 1.5 inches and is excellent condition. There are small rubber knobs on the bottom corners, so there are no scratches that are usually present on the bottom of display acrylics.
The price is $295 via PayPal and I will provide free postage for domestic or foreign shipment. Thanks for looking!
THE ACRYLIC HAS BEEN SOLD - Thanks!
