The American Space Museum has a leaky roof that has been patched many, many times but is not holding and we are in the rainy season. So we are selling an unusually large section of Mercury Atlas-1 flown shingle.
This section is from the main hatch on display at the museum for many years, This picture shows its location before removal: This section also comes with a COA from the museum and signed by myself and is guaranteed to be 100% authentic. The museum is in desperate need of a new roof and the cost is $68,000 and this is funds we do not have. The sale of this section will go towards our new roof. The item is priced at $10,000 with shipping in the USA included and 100% of the funds will go to the new roof for the museum. Payment on this item will be made to the museum directly or through the museum's PayPal account. Also, if anyone would like to make a donation towards our new roof please visit the American Space Museum website and click on donate. We appreciate all of the collectSPACE members who have supported us for many years. |

If no one has an interest in this we will be forced to cut it up into small sections for other options. I do not want to do this but the museum needs money for the roof. A 1 1/2" x 2" section sold for $800 on this site just a few weeks ago. This section is nine times larger, so I will offer this at $7,000 even though I have been told we can make close to double that amount by cutting it up. I am against cutting up artifacts for profit I would rather sell the whole section to a good home. |

I just wanted to clarify something from a discussion I had with a Cs member this week.I am not selling this item. This is not being sold to benefit my self or any individual. This item is being offered as an incentive for the great people in the space community to help us fix the roof on the American Space Museum Building. The money to repair our roof is not going to come from any other place except private donations. So this Flown item is offered as a THANK YOU and incentive for a large donation towards helping a great organisation fix the roof covering hundreds of space artifacts on display for the public. The sale price is supposed to be a minimum but not a maximum amount that can be given. Please know with the exception of a few meals with some great space workers and a few astronauts I have never received a penny from the museum and I would not take it if it where offered. I am a volunteer and I do this for the love of space history and to help educate future generations. Please help us out. |

The photos that you posted on eBay about this shingle are very helpful in visualizing what happened to the Mercury spacecraft. I commend you for your dedication to this fine museum. |

I just went to eBay to take a closer look at the MA-1 shingle section and got a message saying the item is no longer available.I hope that means it was sold to some really fortunate collector. Congratulations Chuck. |

I have removed this from eBay as I have an interested person I am holding it for. If it is not paid for I will relist it. |
