Looking for a pair of gloves for the David Clark S1030 pressure suit. That's the gold colored pressure suit used by SR-71 and U-2 crews, and was also used for the first five shuttle flights. Thanks.

Technically, it's a yellow color Nomex material; U-2/TR-1 pilots use the S1031 variant, not the S1030.

Also, the suit was used for the first four OFT flights aboard Columbia, not five.

I believe based on his description, the gloves dsenechal is looking for are the "gold" colored ones. They are more of a golden color than yellow, due to the type of fabric used on them.

A few words on suit fabrics may clarify.

The fabric used on the early suits was treated with FYPRO which resulted in the golden color. The official term is "old gold" for the color. Both S1030 suits for the SR-71 and early S1031 suits for the U2/TR1 were made with the old gold colored FYPRO fabric as was the Shuttle EES S1030A suits. The torso covers on the Shuttle EES were changed to a brownish PBI fabric for the flight suits, except for the gloves.

Later U2 S1031 suits were made with nomex fabric which is more yellow and looks distinctly lighter and more yellow that the old gold color. The nomex tends to fade more than the Fypro old gold fabric, so it tends to lighten with use.

Also the early S1031 old gold suits were recovered with nomex fabric when they were overhauled. The current U2 S1034 suits are also yellow nomex, but have been made in blue and tan nomex as well.
