Ok, we have 12 confirmed plus one that needs to send me their mailing address. For this first round that makes 13, and that needs to be the limit to keep it manageable for this round. If you still want in, I can include you in round 2. Send me your info and I'll add you to the list. I'm sure we will have regular updates here! We're now on a planned hold while we finalize the prep work... |

The reusable grab bag launch vehicle is on its way to the next destination in sunny, beautiful Michigan. I'm excited about the book and patches I acquired, and hope that the items I threw in make it to someone that will appreciate them.

The box has successfully landed in Springfield, Il. I plan to get it relaunched tomorrow. Should I mention what I received or wait til it gets to everyone? |

Sure. You can add what you received. Just don't post what you added. Keeps it a surprise for others that way. Also, please send me the tracking number when you relaunch. |

I received a nice Apollo 11 Grumman pin and presentation card. Also got a plaque that mentions Neil Amrstrong that I was able to put on my framed signed photo. Hope you guys like my additions! |

Landed and relaunched! The USSCGB was initially reported as an UFO by non-space-obsessed observers when it made it's unannounced arrival in Greensboro, NC — I was early in the list of recipients but had no forewarning that it was on the way. I found it on my desk after a long weekend where it was a VERY welcome surprise. In keeping with the spirit of the program, I made sure to add more than I took out, and there were some really awesome things packed in there. Cargo alteration manifest (what I took): two signed photos (Jim McDivitt on an Apollo 9 crew, Story Musgrave on a KSC photo from the gift shop), one STS-48 crew litho, one intact (well padded) Apollo Libbey glass, two stickers, three shuttle mission patches, three mission pins and one shuttle-flown seed foil packet. Very cool stuff — it was also really hard to not grab the unusual semitransparent item in the small signed tissue paper envelope (whoever gets it, fill us in on the details and history please). Launch to Illinois was successful this afternoon! |

Just an update for those following this flight. So far the USSCGB has made five successful landings and is currently in flight yet again with a scheduled landing tomorrow in upstate New York. That leaves seven more flights. Initially launched just four short weeks ago, it is making remarkable speed on its overall mission. Even better, I've had several requests for the second mission, so as soon as this one completes its mission and splashes back down, I can now say there will be USSCGB-2! While we have plenty of time for mission planning, if you want to be part of that mission, please let me know. Just a reminder, when you relaunch, please remember to send me the telemetry info so I can track it! |

It may seem like it is incredibly fast (and it is), but when you are waiting on it, it seems like a snails pace. lol. Looking forward to getting it. |

Not really upstate New York, but that's fine! I have received the box and will have it on it's way no later than the end of the weekend. I'll email when it has been shipped. |

Based on the message traffic, I was shocked to see the box on my porch this PM. If I had a clue it was inbound to me, I would have made provisions for its arrival, especially with the thunderstorm that dampened it.Luckily, the plastic bags did their job. I intend to make a "quick turn" on this and get it back on the road to points west (Ohio) tomorrow. |

As the host, I kept it pretty simple. We have a mailing list so the grab bag travels from one person to the next. Once you receive the "package," you open it, take out an item you'd like to add to your collection and replace it with something that would be just as interesting to someone else and then "launch" it again on its next mission to the next person. There's only a couple common sense rules to keep it safe (dry and damage free), to keep it going and to keep it interesting. I can email you the "official" rules (or as they say, they're more like guidelines) if you'd like. I will say, from the responses I've received so far, it's been working well. We are a bit past halfway in round one. It first launched in June. We do have enough confirmed interest to launch round 2, probably in November (with possibly TWO launch vehicles!). |

The bulging package has been sent on its way to the next destination. I can tell you it's absolutely packed full of goodies!I am now caretaker of a piece of film with Walt Cunningham signature (love to know the story of this if anyone wants to share....) and some really cool vintage space program reference cards! These items will be put to good use in my classroom. Thanks guys! |

The box arrived in central Alabama just prior to the inclement weather. The box and contents are in perfect condition and will be sent to the next stop tomorrow (Thursday 9/14). Lots of good things found inside. I took a book and put in a signed book. |

With only a couple stops left, I’ll be organizing round 2. For those that emailed me already, I’ll be putting the list together. Depending on how many we have, we may have two launch vehicles this time. Any thoughts or preferences how the names should be divided if we do? For those that were in round 1, would you prefer to keep that group together?I’m open to suggestions at this point while I get stuff ready while round 1 finishes up. |

FYI - package has been launched to the last stop before returning home. I'll put together the list for round 2, email everyone interested and go from there depending on views on how to do round 2. |

Final update for round 1...Package has successfully landed back at its starting point. I've received a lot of good comments about how well it worked and that folks were glad to see it land on their porch (driveway, mailbox, etc.). I'm really glad everyone seemed to enjoy this first launch and I want to thank you for participating. That being said, I'll be updating the list for the participants for round 2, along with a couple minor rules changes to make it go even smoother. I'd also like to particularly thank those that sent me stuff to get this started. I'll be sending you emails to see how you want to proceed now that round 1 has finished. There's a LOT of stuff left in the box and you guys should get consideration for helping to get this started. In any event, I'll be working on getting things ready for round 2. Stay tuned and keep an eye on your (e)mail box if you've already expressed interest in round 2. If you haven't already, it's not yet too late. Just shoot me an email and I'll add you to the list! Thanks all! |

All, couple of things here. First, I need to apologize for being so slow. I’ve not forgotten or skipped the country. Just as Round 1 was finishing, I changed jobs and we started looking for a new house since my new job is an hour and a half away! So we’re moving too. So I’ve been pretty swamped with new job stuff, driving to/from work and house hunting. All that said, I just sent an email to the guys who helped get Round 1 started. Once I hear back from them, I’ll (finally) be putting the list for Round 2 together and emailing that out. So please be patient. I’m still here and still working on things. I’m just really slow right now. Again, my apologies. I can only do what I can do. If you’ve already emailed me to be in Round 2, I still have your email. No need to reply again. I’m shooting to have that list ready by the end of next week. Look for a confirmation email and reply to confirm! There will be a couple of rules changed. Nothing big, but there were a couple small issues we found in Round 1 the changes will address. Those will go out to all participants once it’s finalized. Thanks for your patience. More news to come. (I promise!) |
