For sale: STS-6 (Challenger) flown 8x10 NASA-issued red-numbered (S-66-33762) photo that was secretly inserted in the Flight Data File. Has 3 holes punched on the left hand side and bears a taped on speech bubble stating "I know it looks funny, but flat tops were the rage at Penn State!". The quote refers to Weitz's haircut in that image, his official NASA portrait holding the LM model, taken nearly 20-years before STS-6.
Weitz told me that a few of these gag photos were inserted into the FDF to help put a smile on the crew's face during the mission. He kept them after the flight, and he certified this one with black sharpie "Gag photo flown in Flight Data File on STS-6, Paul Weitz" on the front.
Also comes with his signed LOA attesting to it's flown status as well as a photo of him holding it. So... fully certified.
$300usd or best offer. Thanks, please email for photos.
