For sale a pair of space-flown sneakers with a great story... These "sportboots," as described by cosmonaut Gennadi Manakov, were launched to Russia's Mir space station for the outpost's 22nd crew commander. Manakov had been slated to command the flight but medical problems led to his being grounded five days before he was set to launch on Soyuz TM-24. These Adidas brand sneakers, sized for Manakov, made the trip to space only to be discovered by Valery Korzun, Manakov's replacement on the mission. Korzun stamped the toes of each shoe with ink postmarkers that were on board Mir and then sent them back to Earth with the visiting STS-79 crew on board space shuttle Atlantis. Included is a signed letter of authenticity by Manakov and the original handwritten letter that accompanied the sneakers back to Earth on Atlantis, signed by Korzun and Alexander Kaleri. The letter is also stamped with the three Mir markers. SOLD. |

For what it's worth, isn't "Chumlee" of the Las Vegas Pawn Stars a big time sneaker collector? Could be a match! |
