This is the first time I have seen a piece of the MA-1 spacecraft offered for sale. What is history of this particular artifact? I am aware MA-1 exploded shortly after launch and it was not equipped with the escape rocket. I assumed all the recovered pieces were at the Kansas Cosmosphere.

Thanks for the question. There is a page on my website with the COA and info you're after here.

This piece was recovered along with the larger sections shown in the image. I do know a very large piece brought in a huge sum at auction recently though, so there is some of it out there. You're right in saying that it very rarely comes up for sale.

Thanks for the link. Looks like the fragment came from the outer edge of the lower shingle shown in the photo - perhaps the lower right corner judging by what appears to be a bolt hole in the fragment.
