I have some covers for sale that commemorated various test of space shuttle components during 1976-77 time frame. All cachets are 3-Muscateers serviced by Stan Henderson. I will send scans of covers to anyone interested. - Set of nine covers commemorating the Shuttle ALT Escape System sled tests held at Holloman AFB, New Mexico. Covers were autographed by Test Manager, Captain Jerry Brewer USAF. The tests were held between December 1, 1976 and May 5, 1977. $90
- Set of 16 covers commemorating the testing of the Space Shuttle Orbiter reaction control system engines at White Sands Missle Range, New Mexico. Covers were autographed by Chief Propulsion Test Office, Rob Tillet. The tests were held between November 2, 1977 and July 3,1978. $150
- Set of five covers commemorating the Space Shuttle SRB Nosecap Ejection sled tests held at the rocket sled facility at Sandia Labs, Albuqerque, New Mexico. Covers autographed by the Supervisor, Track and Cable Division, David Bickel. The tests were held between March 2-10, 1978. $50.
- SRB Parachute Test Cover that was in an SRB during a parachute test and was damaged. Test took place on December 14, 1977 at the National Parachute Range at El Centro, Ca. Dealer Stan Henderson of 3-Muscateers cachets made contact with someone at the range to possibly carry some covers. The cover was in the SRB when the main drogue chute failed to open at 25,000 feet after being dropped from the B-52 for the test. The cover fell with the SRB to earth and was buried 25 feet deep in the ground and had to be dug up. When the SRB was opened, the cover was in the crumpled condition as a result of the crushed condition of the SRB. Martin Marietta, which ran the test, felt so bad about damaging the covers they made up a special enclosure to explain the damage.
Stan believes this the first cover to be carried on any of the tests and damaged in testing of Space Shuttle components. Stan sent about 20 covers but does not know the total amount of covers carried. A copy of the documentation Stan sent to his customers is available to anybody interested via email. The crumpled state of the cover is not evident on the scan but it is there. Make offer. ------------------ John Macco Space Unit #1457 |
