I'm looking to sell my 12 moonwalker' autographs. They are framed and matted with each set of two by their respective first day cover (FDC) of their flight. I'm gathering all my certificates of authenticity. So far, I have Armstrong, and will find and include the rest. I originally bought them in 1994 separately and had them framed. Will send pics of all. Also looking to sell a similar framed Mercury 7 set. Not sure on price yet. Does one sell them here or can you help with other resources? Thanks. — Ken |

By 'First Day Cover' do you mean an 'event cover' postmarked for each mission's launch, moon landing date or splashdown/recovery? |

For us philatelic-oriented collectors, the misuse of "FDC" for an event cover, such as a launch cover, is a continuing irritation. Many auctions use "FDC" to identify launch covers and event covers, as it is a convenient and short term to use - but wrong. "FDC" has nothing to do with an event or launch cover, or Prime Recovery Ship cover, etc., and has everything to do with the issuance of a stamp. "FDC" is "First Day Cover" and more accurately could be "First Day of Issue Cover," as FDC's mark the issuance of a particular stamp by the USPS on its first day of availability, and these FDCs have "First Day of Issue" included in the postmark/cancel. Looking forward to seeing images of your 12 moonwalker autographs along with the covers. |

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I'm pretty sure the Young is an autopen. I also have doubts about the Armstrong being legit, though I'll leave that to better eyes than mine. The rest looked alright though I seem to recall Schmitt having a similar autopen pattern to yours. It could be good though. The Young and Armstrong are concerns, though. |

I just checked this autopen guide and unfortunately the Young is a definite one. I'm honestly not sure on the Schmitt as it looks a lot like pattern 2. As far as the Armstrong, I'd check with Steve Zarelli. There's no better at authenticating Armstrongs. Good luck. |
