Gemini IV commander Jim McDivitt made available for purchase from his personal collection several years ago flags of different nations, flown in his spacecraft during that historic mission. This flag is from the then-Soviet Socialist Republic of Ukraine, which makes it quite interesting from an historical viewpoint. First, there's the fact that right in the middle of the space race between the USA and the Soviet Union, the flags of the members of the USSR (complete with hammer and sickle!) were flown along with all the other flags. Now, of course, the independent country of Ukraine (with a different flag) is the flashpoint of the highest tensions between the USA and Russia since the end of the Cold War. McDivitt hand-signed the 4x6" flag "Flown on Gemini IV / Jim McDivitt." It comes with the Certificate of Authenticity from Astronaut Central, signed in print by McDivitt. American flags flown on Gemini IV have sold for $5,017. The price is for this flag is $550. That's a real bargain for a unique item hand-signed as flown on a fascinating mission (imagine the EVA photo you could frame it with!), from the commander's personal collection. Update: Sold. |

Approximately 100 custom-made pure sterling silver Fliteline medallions were flown on each of the Gemini missions. This superb website, maintained by Chris Spain, will tell you everything you would like to know about them. This is one of those flown on Gemini 4 (or GT-4). It is in excellent condition, with none of the tarnishing and even pitting seen on so many that weren't cared for as carefully over the decades. It comes with the original Fliteline box, with the logo of a flying bird.
(The back is just as shiny as the front, but the flash kept obscuring the "3-7 June, 1965" engraving.) In the last couple of years, identical one-inch flown Gemini 4 Fliteline medallions have sold at auction for $1,016 (that one was pretty tarnished), and $1,300. This price for this one is $850, plus $20 for insured Priority Mail shipping. If you absolutely can't make a single full payment but could pay in two monthly installments, please let me know. After a few days, if no one has offered to buy it outright, I'll accept that offer. Update: Sold. |
