The owner from St. Louis indicated this was original. Would be useful to know if there were specific attributes that could help with authenticating. I am by no means proficient in models.

There are two possibilities for this model. It could be an original gray McDonnell Aircraft Corp, 1:30 scale desk model by Topping mounted on a rectangular wooden base (7x5") with a metal descriptive plaque and the St. Louis acrylic arch. These models were originally made for McDonnell Aircraft Corp. in 1962-63 and were given away as seen fit by McDonnell Aircraft.

The second possibility is that it is a more uncommon new old stock model. The Topping Model inventory was sold to Precise Models around the same time period as these models were produced. McDonnell told Precise to destroy any of these original models found in inventory at the time of the company change over to Precise.

In 2007, 79 of these models were discovered in an old Precise Models warehouse. These models were sold to the public. An authentic 2007 discovered model came with a certificate of authenticity from Precise models and they are numbered 1-79. I believe the models were also numbered, but I may be wrong about that.

Depends on your point of view as to which model is more desired. Either way they are a cool addition to ones collection.

All times are CT (US)
