Skylab 4 flown ID plate, from the late Col. William R. Pogue's collection, up for sale on eBay. Accepting all reasonable offers, or (obviously) the buy-it-now. Col. Pogue was the pilot for Skylab 4. |

The description states the plate was affixed to the CM and removed on return. How were you able to confirm this (particularly give that it has inscribed launch/recovery dates which could not have been firmly established until after mission execution)?Isn't it more likely, if the plate was flown that it was carried aloft in one of the crew member's PPK's rather then integrated as part of the flight vehicle's structure? |

The description is based on what Pogue told me at time of acquisiton, and how the COA is worded. That it "flew as part of the Skylab spacecraft" and that it "was removed upon conclusion of the program." I am in no position to either argue with the man or speculate; am just relaying what I was told by the original owner, i.e, the astronaut that was gifted the ID plate by the CM's manufacturer. It was not part of Pogue's PPK. As for engraving dates -- same can be said for Robbins medallions and other such dated items (like the flown ID plates from GEMINI which are also mission dated, and engraved post-flight). Often, the date lines are kept open, and engraved after the fact. | |
