I'm sorry to ask. But, I'm ignorant on the subject of patches. - Gemini 12 Crew patch $289
- Apollo 9 Crew souvenir patch $150
- Apollo 10 Post-flight Crew patch $199
- Apollo 13 Crew patch $135
- Apollo 14 Crew patch $44
- Apollo 17 "White Eagle" Crew patch $150
What makes these crew patches so unique to justify the price tags. Are these different than the mass produced patches sold to the public? Are they signed by the crew or limited editions of some kind?Just wondering. Thanks! |

Oh, not a problem. Thanks for your question.Original Crew Patches are exactly like those worn by the crews. Not made available commercially and not produced in large quantities, as they were made only for the crew, their families and friends, and NASA employees. Sometimes, they were produced in limited runs, whereas the ones sold to the public were mass produced. Also, they were slightly different from the commercial versions. Consequently, they are rare, highly collectable and therefore expensive. This justify the price tags. They sold for even more, in the past. For example, the Gemini 12, sold for even $500-800. To quote the Introduction of Crewpatches.com, the Bible for any space patches collector: "The main criteria for this patch are that it should have been used by the crew themselves at some stage around the time of the mission itself, and that it should be rare, and thus challenging to collect". For more information about crew patches and prices, you might want to take a look at www.crewpatches.com (particularly for Mercury, Gemini, Apollo and Skylab crew patches). Check the footnotes to see the prices. As for Space Shuttle crew patches, ESA patches and russian space patches, please, visit www.spacepatches.nl, another very interesting and useful website on the subject. Hope this helps! | |
