Farthest Reaches is pleased to announce a partnership with the family of the late Mercury, Gemini and Apollo astronaut, Leroy Gordon "Gordo" Cooper to present artifacts from his personal collection.

Colonel Cooper was one of the original 7 Mercury astronauts and flew the final Mercury flight, "Faith 7" in 1963. He also commanded the first long duration Gemini flight, Gemini 5, with Charles "Pete" Conrad on the famous "8 Days or Bust" mission. Gordo was also the back up commander of Apollo 10 before retiring from NASA.

Colonel Cooper had a long and successful military career as a test pilot, a NASA Group 1 astronaut, as well as a long relationship with the Disney Company where he worked on aerospace related items to be presented to the public at the Disney parks.

Farthest Reaches is proud to be working with his wife, Mrs. Suzy Cooper, to present you with these very unique, one of a kind items from one of the original NASA astronauts.

Items will include in part, badges, letters, books, flight jackets, flight suit, signed material, vintage NASA paper and some other extremely unique items to be announced.

The first items have yet to be posted but will be shortly. You may find the Gordon Cooper Artifacts page by mousing over the "Astro Offerings" navigation button from Farthest Reaches home page and selecting "Gordon Cooper".

Thanks as always for your support and keep an eye out for some outstanding items from the personal archives of pioneer Mercury Astronaut Gordon Cooper.

The first wave of Gordon Cooper artifacts will be officially launched on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at precisely 2 p.m. (Pacific Time).

There will be a smattering of items that run the gamut. Please note, that there will be other equally desirable items added each week. Keep your eyes open for one of the most unique and highly desirable Mercury related items I have ever offered (also from the Cooper Collection) sometime a bit later in March..

Please read the following carefully and email if questions:

In the interest of fairness to my many loyal clients so that everyone if given a fair chance to acquire some of the more "select" items, I am doing something a bit different for the first 36 hours from the Cooper page being launched.

Mission Rules:

  1. ALL items will be priced

  2. Some items will be marked with the asking price AND "Best Offer". This means that the posted price is the minimum I'll accept for that item HOWEVER for the first 72 hours (3 days) from the time the page launches, I'll entertain your best offers in excess of the minimum posted price.

  3. Please make your best offers via email as it's time stamped and easy for me to track. I'll try to post the current high offer to the page as they come in to the extent I'm able but suggest you send me an email if need be and I'll give you the latest high bid as I'm not necessarily able to update the page constantly during the day. I suggest you make your best offer from the outset however and not wait until the last minute.

  4. At the end of 3 days time on Wednesday March 5th at 2PM (Pacific Time) the person offering to purchase at the highest price over the minimum will get that item.

  5. Any unsold items will revert back to the original posted price and the "Best Offer" period will be over.
I'm hoping this will give everyone a fair chance to obtain some of the more unique items even if they aren't able to visit the Cooper Artifacts page from the moment it opens for your review.

Lord, I hope this isn't too confusing but based upon my past experience when launching these new artifact pages, the biggest complaints are from people who wanted a crack at something but just couldn't get to the page in time. Hopefully creating a 3 day window will allow everyone a fair chance.

Please let me know if questions. If you're looking for specific items please post to this thread so that I won't need to answer the same questions over and over in a barrage of email.

Thanks for all for your continued support and for your patience while I've been putting this Gordon Cooper Artifacts page together. Remember, what is posted on Sunday will only be the beginning with other items to follow.

Send your offers to steve@farthestreaches.com OR text to 310.892.5150.

Greetings from rainy southern California.

With Sunday's 2PM (Pacific Time) launch fast approaching for the Farthest Reaches Gordon Cooper Artifact Page, thought I'd share just a few highlights of this 65-75 item kickoff.

  1. Gordon Cooper's Harmon Trophy presented to him by Lyndon Johnson for being the worlds most outstanding aviator in 1963.

  2. Faith 7 Flown heat shield display

  3. Gordon Cooper's Lucite presentation of Fliteline Medallions.

  4. Cooper's photo ID Badge from Langley AFB (Project Mercury's first HQ)

  5. Passport

  6. MA-8 White Room Badge

  7. An exceedingly rare Friendship 7 Flown artifact

  8. "The Spirit of St. Louis" by Charles Lindbergh dedicated to "L. Gordon Cooper"

  9. Signed by all: Mercury 7 photo (an uncommon image).

  10. Some most interesting letters

  11. Gordon Cooper's 1953 Omega Seamaster watch with box

  12. Identification plate removed from Gemini 5 Capsule following it's 8 day mission.
...and the list goes on and on.

There will quite a number of additional items posted in the weeks to come, including the highlight of the entire sale which will be announced in mid March.

I expect our Sunday launch will start things off with a bang. Please see my other post in this thread for the "Mission Rules" of this sale.

I hope you'll stop by and visit even if it's just to browse and thanks as always for your continued support.

For those of you who have iPhones which does not support the Flash navigation buttons on my Farthest Reaches Home page, I have added a Java hot link there that will take you directly to the Gordon Cooper Artifact page. It will launch at 2PM pacific time.

Always happens at silly o'clock over the pond but I appreciate you taking steps to ensure everyone has a fair chance. A top idea.

I know ten minutes past the announced launch time isn't that long, but I just want to make sure that everyone else is still seeing the "Coming Soon" on the Cooper artifacts page. Is there some new link I'm not seeing?

The page is active as I write this. You may want or need to refresh your browser's cache if you are still seeing "coming soon."

Thank you Robert, I'm in now.

One thing I did have to do however, and I recommend it for anyone else having difficulty, is to clear your browsing data cache before going to the website.

Edited to add: I see what you did Robert

Yes, please clear your cache. I'll be adding some additional Gemini covers today, Gordo's "Reaching for the Stars" framed artist's proof, a Miss USA related item and perhaps a few other things. I'll mark them as "NEW" for your convenience.

I did that specifically for that reason. Glad it meets your approval. Seems to me to be the fairest way to give everyone a chance to obtain what they may be interested in without regard to time zones.

The three day "Top Offer" period is now over. Winners of items are or have been notified. Some amazing things are still available and even more are yet to come.

I have removed "Top Offer" labels, placing prices back to "fixed". Thanks to everyone from both the Cooper family and Farthest Reaches for your participation in this event.

Ordered two items from Farthest Reaches Gordon Cooper offerings. Steve promptly told me they were mine after the offer deadline, I sent my check and he immediately shipped them to me in bulletproof packaging. He included a COA for each item and they were in superb shape.

Thanks Steve for the outstanding service and the chance to acquire these treasures! – Art S.
