Nice gift! Is your print additionally signed by John Glenn? Pat Eby had approx. 100 prints signed by five of the Mercury Astronauts. Alan Shepard, John Glenn, Gordon Cooper, Scott Carpenter and Wally Schirra. (I have one of these I purchased from Pat) |

These are great prints. They were produced in 1998 when we turned the Complex 14 blockhouse into a conference center. Cooper and Carpenter came for the dedication ceremony, along with Slayton and Grissom's wives. (It was on Mother's Day 1998, so I'm still sucking up to my wife!) Schirra, Shepard and Glenn signed later. Prints #1-7 went to the Mercury 7 astronauts or their families. #8 was given to the Astronaut Hall of Fame. #9 is framed and proudly hanging in my basement. |

I should have added a note about Alan Shepard. He was very ill (signed these about a month before he passed if I remember correctly) and was in Orlando at the time. He was slated to attend the dedication ceremony at the Cape but could not make the trip. He insisted we send somebody over to his hotel with the prints so he could sign them. Sadly I suspect this was his last "public signing". I think that says a lot for the kind of man he was! |

Yes, my print is signed by Glenn also. It was a very nice gift from a very nice and sadly late friend who was a great contributor to the cS community and to the hobby. |

I am sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. Obviously, if he was a contributor to this site and a collector of history, he was a wise man. With the transfer of a piece of history to you, his knowledge lives on for others to learn and understand. A great gift indeed. |

I was recently asked to handle the sale of "Mercury and Beyond" print no. 4 coming directly from the personal collection of Scott Carpenter. This hung on his wall for many years at his Vail, CO home until being given to Farthest Reaches for purposes of its sale.As mentioned it's no. 4 and marked as an AP (Artist's Proof). This is one of the relatively small number that were hand signed by Glenn, Carpenter, Cooper, Schirra and Shepard. It has been professionally framed but could be removed from the frame prior to shipping should you so desire. I am about to add it to the Carpenter Artifacts page on Farthest Reaches website but thought I'd offer it here first. In the meantime, photos are available upon request. I can be contacted at steve@farthestreaches.com. |
