For Sale..."Rare" Official NASA Challenger 51-L mission color 8" X 10" enginering pad 39 B launch "pad damage" photos. These photos are extremely rare and hard to obtain. They were obtained in person at the Mechanical Systems Division office while researching the extent of routine pad damage a launch pad sustains after a launching. As stated these photos are for pad 39B following the launch of the ill fated Challenger 51-L mission. As a point of interest I visited this pad in person days after the launch to survey the damage for myself but was not permitted the use of a camera and had to settle for these shots as the official 51-L investigation was underway. Another point of interest, two of these photos depict broken water lines due to the not so routine cold weather that plagued that area and was held accountable for the accident. 11 photos in all for this particular mission. Photos depict: hundreds of firebricks that were ripped out of the flame trench by the blast(ground level view from bottom of pit), firebricks and other debis deposited by the pad perimeter fence, MLP deck enginerring camera with frosted, pitted, and punctured lens, elevator doors blown off, telephone face blown off,two overhead viwes looking down on scorched MLP deck, damaged holddown posts, and equipment, and closeup of scorched water deluge lines and deck. Fascinating photos of something you often wondered about, but do not compare to in person obsevations. I am asking $100 plus shipping for the lot of 11 photos. Or for a total of $150 plus shipping and I'll throw in seven more size 8" X 8" official NASA color pad 39A engineering photos from missions STS-3, and STS-5 that depict pad damage to the trench, FSS, MLP camera, deck of MLP with large "Cracks". If interested please e-mail me off line at 1jan1@bright.net or feel free to call me at 419-586-9600. Thanks. Rick | |
