The USS Hornet Museum in Alameda, California is hosting two events to celebrate the 53rd anniversary of the splashdown of Apollo 11 and the ship's role in recovering the crew and spacecraft.

On Friday, July 22, 2022, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., the museum will host a dinner with Apollo 11 frogman Clancy Hatleberg:

Join us on the USS Hornet for a private dinner with Clarence "Clancy" Hetleberg, the Navy Frogman who was the first to greet the astronauts when they returned to Earth from the Moon. Listen to Clancy tell some personal stories and answer your questions from his experiences as part of the Apollo 11 recovery team. Afterwards enjoy a guided tour of the Hangar Bay and our famous Apollo 11 recovery exhibit.

Your ticket includes dinner, an open bar and a chance to personally meet Clarence "Clancy" Hatleberg. Bob Fish, Hornet historian and author of "Hornet Plus Three" will also be on hand to present with Clancy.

On Saturday, July 23, the museum will hold a full day of activities:
  • Splashdown presentation with Bob Fish and Clancy Hatleberg
  • NASA presentation by historian James Andersen
  • Space Exploration panel run by journalist Sarah Cruddas with the chief revenue officer of OffWorld Amaresh Kollipara, astronaut Dan Bursch and SETI director Seth Shostak
  • Star Wars clubs
  • Model rocket displays
  • Traveling space exhibit
  • The museum's own Apollo exhibit and new biological isolation garment (BIG) suit display
  • And book signings by Cruddas and Fish.

All times are CT (US)
