A very enjoyable evening at Leicester University with an astronaut I did not know much about but who proved to be a good communicator and very interesting. He told of his two Shuttle flights and his Soyuz trip to the ISS where he was commander in a six months stay. The video of the fun he had on the station was entertaining which I think the audience enjoyed too. A good message to young students he gave was if exam results or job satisfaction are disappointing with the right attitude you can still succeed. He experienced this but with hard endeavour reached his eventual goal to become an astronaut, something which hadn't bothered him earlier. It was quite well attended and thanks to the Pint of Science organisers for arranging the event. The only disappointment was their failure to provide the promised beverages during the interval, although they did apologise. I was longing for one! Always good to see Nick (cS Spaceman) and his wife there as I often do at many events. | |
