There is an event somewhat near me coming up. Its listed in the events as Earthrise in Kansas in December. There is a list of many astronauts I would love to meet, but the details of the event are not very specific. They do say no selfies or autographs. I have spent way too many hours reading everything I can about the space race. I am not sure what draws me into it but I can spend hours reading transcripts of missions or looking at schematics and plans. I would really like to meet an Apollo era astronaut. I have no idea what I would say to them, but it would be such an honor to meet any of them. Can anyone tell me what these events are like? Will I have a chance to shake hands or meet the special guests at an event like this? The tickets say Includes: Buffet meal, three drink tokens and presentation, but that is about all the info that is given. I have bought tickets for me and my kids to the event and plan to attend, and I have hopes to be able to talk to some of the special guests, but I don't know if that is realistic. Thanks for any input you might have. Editor's note: Threads merged.

I'm a longtime member of the Cosmosphere and very much looking forward to this event. The Cosmosphere does not allow photos or autographs at their events. It sounds as if you got the dinner tickets, not the VIP tickets. The VIP tickets let you into a private reception where you would have almost been guaranteed to meet the astronauts and flight controllers and have a chance to chat, however, you can probably do so as a dinner guest. The astronauts are often particularly attuned to meeting and chatting with children. My tip if you don't know anyone else there is to find someone wearing a Space Hipsters blue and white button, tell them that you are a first time attendee wanting to meet some astronauts, and enlist their help in getting introduced to your heroes. They are generally a very friendly group of people interested in outreach. I'll be there with my button! |
