Space Center Houston release
To the Moon and Beyond

Oct. 23, 2018
Marriott Marquis Houston

Individual tickets start at $250.
Reserved table sponsorships start at $2,500

As we count down to the 50th anniversary of the Apollo lunar landing next year, we invite you to join us at Space Center Houston's fall luncheon: To the Moon and Beyond on Oct. 23.

The luncheon will pay special tribute to legendary Apollo flight director Gene Kranz for his extraordinary contributions to human space exploration and his leadership in the Historic Mission Control restoration project at NASA Johnson Space Center.

Proceeds from the luncheon will benefit Space Center Houston's $5 million campaign, On a Mission, in support of the restoration of this National Historic Landmark.

Kranz served as flight director throughout NASA's Gemini and Apollo programs. He is best known for this role during Apollo 11, the first lunar landing on July 20, 1969 and again during the successful efforts to save the crew of Apollo 13 several years later. Depicted by Ed Harris in the major motion picture "Apollo 13," Kranz has served as a tireless advocate for Historic Mission Control and the efforts to restore this national treasure.

Historic Mission Control is the site where a team of young engineers and scientists made history landing the first men on the Moon and returning them safely to Earth. It is the site where the words, "Houston, the Eagle has landed" marked the accomplishment of one of humankind's greatest challenges. In the process, this momentous occasion made Houston synonymous with innovation, determination and courage.

Often referred to as a "leadership laboratory," Historic Mission Control is a much-revered place that will continue to inspire future generations to reach for the stars once it is restored.

'Gene Kranz Day' honors flight director, funds Mission Control revival

A NASA legend who led the team that landed humans on the moon almost 50 years ago was saluted in Houston on Tuesday (Oct. 23) for his current role preserving the historic site where the Apollo 11 mission was managed.

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner proclaimed Oct. 23, 2018 "Gene Kranz Day," honoring the Apollo flight director at an event organized by Space Center Houston. The "To the Moon and Beyond" luncheon was also a benefit, raising $300,000 for the restoration of the Mission Operations Control Room at NASA's Johnson Space Center where Kranz defined the principles of Mission Control.
