Dream Big: Space, Limerick and Two Men's Quests to Reach for the Stars.

A special Space Week event with Limerick entrepreneur Cyril Bennis and NASA astronaut Col. Al Worden, moderated by space enthusiast and science presenter Dr Niamh Shaw.

Its the 1960's and in Limerick, 9 year old Cyril Bennis meets John Glenn, NASA astronaut and first American to orbit earth. It changes the course of his life forever. Meanwhile, across the Atlantic, fighter pilot and young NASA astronaut Al Worden watches the first moon landing and wonders if his time will ever come.

In 1971 Col. Worden, orbited the moon as part of NASA's iconic Apollo programme and Cyril will be one of the first Irish people to orbit earth on XCOR's commercial spacecraft Lynx II in the coming months. How did they do it?

Join Dr. Niamh Shaw as she chats with these space explorers as they tell their story of getting to space. A family event celebrating Limerick’s involvement in space exploration past, present and future which encourage us to never give up on our dreams.

Millennium Theatre, LIT, Wednesday 5 October 8 pm.

Cyril will be one of the first Irish people to orbit earth on XCOR's commercial spacecraft Lynx II in the coming months.
Just for the record, XCOR's Lynx Mark II is a suborbital spacecraft designed to fly to a maximum altitude of 100 kilometers — and is no where close to flying in the coming months.

As of the last update, XCOR's executives said the company was putting aside the Lynx project to fully focus on developing a liquid hydrogen engine under a contract with United Launch Alliance.
