As far as I'm aware there is no link between Kansas and the Gemini X mission.

For this occasion however, it would be impossible to have cocktails next to the Gemini X capsule in anywhere other than Kansas.

It appears this event has sold out.

Anyone here planning on attending?

Received more information from the Cosmosphere in regards to this event.

I expected the no autographs of any kind policy because, well, it's Michael Collins. But there will be a strictly enforced no photography policy of any kind. So essentially that means that I could not take a single photo during the event and I could not get a photo with him.

Kind of a bummer. Not to be petty or anything, but I live 3.5 hours away from the Cosmosphere, plus the price to attend the event, I feel I could have a nice dinner and cocktails anywhere else for a lot cheaper.

If the lack of photos leaves you without a motivation to go, let me suggest two: you will support a great museum and you will get to see and hear from Michael Collins.

Seems like a pretty good deal to me...

Yes, I did think about it and figured it wasn't as bad as I thought. The Cosmosphere sent out clarification too:
The Cosmosphere has adopted a no selfie/no photograph policy to go along with its longstanding no autograph policy.

This is a direct result of the inconvenience caused at last year’s Apollo XIII event as guests who insisted on several selfies with our Astronauts and Mission Control VIPs impeded the ability of others to interact with the VIPs they’d paid to see. Jim Lovell even made the comment that the advent of cell phone photos has made the crowd interaction less enjoyable than it had been in the past.

It's unfortunate but I totally understand.

Basically, some people's rudeness and their addiction to cell phones has ruined it for many others. I have seen this at events with athletes too. Sadly, I agree.

I've always thought a good compromise would be a photo op at the beginning of an event, ensuring everyone gets a chance for a photo, then a no photo policy for the remainder of the event.

The Cosmosphere has made it clear that their photographer will be sure to get a picture of each attendee with Mike Collins. I think that's more than reasonable and I laud the Cosmosphere for setting civil boundaries for these gatherings.

From the Cosmosphere on Facebook:
We have been happy to host astronaut Michael Collins and his daughters Ann and Kate today. He signed our wall in the Cosmosphere Camps rotunda and visited his Gemini X spacecraft. How cool is that?!

It was a lovely evening although there was little chance to interact with General Collins. We all went through a receiving line and then were seated at long banquet tables. I can understand a no selfies policy to speed up the receiving line, but we could have taken a few non-flash photos from our seats during the Q&A after dinner with zero disruption to anyone. The no photos policy was pretty harsh.

I've been a premium Cosmosphere member for many years and drive in several times a year (its a six hour ea h way drive for me). I will be less likely to drive in for future events if this policy remains in place.

Actually their e-mail said that there was no guarantee that all attendees would be in a photo. I like to take photos at these events, not just selfies with the astronauts but also photos of things like decor and table settings, groups of friends I'm with, the astronauts interacting, etc. I really missed taking photos last night and having them today, although otherwise it was a great event and Mike and his daughters were their usual charming and witty selves.
