Former NASA astronaut Michael (Mike) Foale is giving a public lecture as part of the Pint of Science festival at 7 p.m. on April 20 at the Renold Building in Manchester, UK. Tickets moving quickly.
Mike is the most experienced British born astronaut in the history of human Space travel having flown on 6 Space Shuttle missions, a Soyuz and commanded the International Space Stations. He was the first Briton to perform a Space walk, during which he saved the Hubble Space Telescope. Mike was also responsible for saving the Russian MIR Space Station when it was tumbling out of control. Come and listen to him talk about these experiences and share his stories with you at this unique event.

For a review on the previous ISSET public event with Michael Foale, visit The Armchair Astronaut (events page). There was a strict no autographs policy being upheld throughout the entire evening.

Great event last night. On arrival we were given an event leaflet and a signed print.

Mike Foale was very entertaining throughout.

He described his space missions in detail with plenty of humour and I'm sure he very much understated his time and experiences on-board MIR. We were treated to some rarely seen still photos and some video clips he made for his family. With background music at relevant moments, the 2001 space odyssey waltz music with the approach to the MIR space station was moving.

There was a break in the lecture where refreshments were served in the tradition of the 'Pint of Science.' Mike freely posed for photos.

We were hoping for an autograph at the end, too. However the 21.30 end time came much too quickly and with a very interesting Q&A session there was just no time. Mike fielded all of the questions with great answers. I'm sure the audience would have kept him there for hours.

(We always set off early for these events and a good job too. A planned one and half journey up to the event turned into almost three hours with extensive M6 road works and two accidents ahead. We arrived a little late, however it was worth the effort.)

Well done Mike and Chris Barber of ISSET and the 'Pint of Science' team.

He is at a school public event in Abingdon tomorrow evening, it is already sold out according to the website.

All times are CT (US)
