Join The British Interplanetary Society for 'An Evening with Al Worden' at The Randolph Hotel in Oxford, UK.Al Worden, Command Module Pilot of Apollo 15, will be speaking at this PUBLIC EVENT for ONE NIGHT ONLY at 7:30pm on Thursday 12th November 2015. The Apollo 15 Mission launched on the 26th July 1971, beginning its 12.5 day mission to the Moon. Its primary mission was to explore a previously unexplored area of the moon, the Hadley-Appenine region. Apollo 15 was the first of the long-stay missions, and with a greater focus on science, Apollo 15 was the most scientifically in-depth and ambitious mission. Using new and improved scientific equipment the crew conducted experiments from orbit, as well as on the ground. It was also the first of the Apollo missions to use the Lunar Rover. Al Worden still holds the Guinness World Record "most remote human being" and was the first to perform a deep space EVA (196000 miles away from Earth). "I highly recommend meeting Al Worden! His personality, friendliness and energy makes his memories come alive. I felt as though I had been to the Moon with him!" Al will be available to chat to, in a more social atmosphere, after his talk, signings and photographs sessions. The evening's programme will include: - Talk by Al Worden followed by Q&A
- Autograph signing (items to buy, or bring your own Moon memorabilia)
- Photo opportunities
Tickets are available here. |

I highly encourage people to go to this. I recall how tough it was, growing up in England, to meet any astronaut, never mind an Apollo lunar astronaut. Plus, Al Worden is what everyone hopes for in an astronaut encounter - friendly, personable, you really feel like you MEET him. There are other astronauts, as many of us know, who are not that way, and you see the disappointment of adults and especially kids when they don't get the experience they hope for. With Al, it's a virtual guarantee you'll feel welcomed and he'll have you laughing in seconds. I hope people go to this and have fun!!

Having had the pleasure of meeting Al, I am in total agreement with Francis. Of all those met I place him top of the list - a great character and a wonderful human being. |

I totally agree with Francis. Pretty much same for me when I was growing up in Germany I never expected to meet especially any Apollo astronaut. Al Worden is one of the finest persons I ever met in my life! He is such a great person - always friendly, personable and a sense of humour which I like very much! I`m always happy and excited spending time with him! |

I must agree with all the comments made about Al Worden - a true gent and hero!He was very intrigued when I met him at an Autographica event several years ago that I had trained my 3 inch telescope on Mare Crisium on the 30th July 1971 (the day before the Falcon landed) and after about 20 minutes saw a sharp point of light due to the sun reflecting off the docked craft in lunar about as it came around from the dark side of the moon, absolutely amazing!! |

Unfortunately I cannot give out any further information until I have heard back from GWR and know it is definitely going to happen at this event. Either way - definitely 1 GWR certificate being presented! |

Just for one night I wish I could transport myself to England, and to the beautiful city of Oxford, just to hear Al Worden speak. He is truly one of the great orators of the astronaut corps, and a darned nice guy as well. I cannot recommend this evening too highly, and for those of you who have never met Al, he is one of the nicest and most sincere people you'd ever want to meet. Also, a great chance to get the autograph of the man who holds the Guinness World Record as "the most remote person." That may be true in a space sense, but he is easily one of the least remote, most likable and approachable of all the astronauts. Like I said, I'd love to be there, and I do encourage you to get along, as who knows when these guys will stop travelling and giving talks. |

Thanks Colin! It is going to be a superb night and we have two Guinness World Record certificates being handed over. The one every one knows about will be presented on the Wednesday eve at the RISpace dinner, and the second (recently recognised) certificate at An Evening with Al Worden on the Thursday eve, after his talk. I'm very excited. |

Excellent night. Relaxed, informal, well organised, great venue, the BIS people were a friendly bunch and of course, Al! He was on top form, and friendly, full of humour with a twinkle in his eye. And quite an Anglophile too! Enjoyed the event very much. Well done to all involved. |

Thank you to everyone that helped me organise and run last night's event! Feedback has been extremely positive, but I know what I will improve on for next time! I would like to thank all the people who attended and all the wonderful staff and volunteers from BIS for making the night run smoothly and helping create a memorable event, I hope you all enjoyed being part of Guinness World Record history! I am working with GWR to get the promotional information out, as it is a rare occasion that they get to award such a unique certification. Congratulations also to all the auction item winners! Feedback welcomed! |
