Has anyone been to the Starmus event? Cannot recall any comments on the site.

Not sure what the photographic opportunities with the astronauts are? Anyone going?

I was on holiday in Tenerife during the last Starmus festival and I thought it might be possible to attend some of the events but the cost was really quite prohibitive so chose instead to enjoy our holiday.

Tenerife is a beautiful island however... and the resort the event is being held at is truly stunning (passed by it when we were on our way to Teide and Masca).

Thank you for commenting...

My sister in law lives in Tenerife, we have been there many times — we love the Canaries.

I am a bit surprised at the prices and wondered what type of guests they wish to attract at that price?

Not seen anyone from cS comment on this event.

I did consider attending this event, but only for the scientists, not so much for the astronauts.

I think they are trying to target those of us who want a holiday but are still undecided as to where to go, and this would act as a good excuse to choose Tenerife.

That said, I have chosen not to attend. I will hold out for my own event, and would rather go and see the Aurora in Norway.

Thanks. Need to meet Harrison Schmitt to bring my moonwalker meeting count to 8.

There are some great scientists going to the event. Didn't know you were so keen on meeting scientists Richie?

Looking forward to your event next year...

I'm very much into Physics, especially Quantum Physics. It would be great to meet another moon walker, but for that price I would rather go to Spacefest!

Am I missing something? It costs 300 Euros. Comparable with Autographica and much cheaper than the dearer Spacefest packages. Seems pretty good value.

Is it just 300 Euros? I thought it was more — with flight, hotels would be a fair amount of money.

If it is just 300 Euros that cannot be bad... just never seen anyone on cS comment on this annual event. Given the lengths that some people (me included) go to meet astronauts I found that a bit strange — off putting even.

Perhaps I'm getting too old.

There's no doubt it would be expensive to stay at the event hotel, but attending any space event involves (a)travel there (b) cost of hotel (c) expenses.

I suspect some people would spend much less going to this event (with no autograph fees) than going to a typical Autographica or Spacefest. I suppose it depends what you want out of a space event.

The 300 Euros figure comes from the event web-site.

As he was mentioned directly, I will note here that Schmitt is no longer attending the Starmus Festival this year. (Their website has not yet been updated.)

I'll be holidaying in Tenerife during the Starmus festival but will only be going to the Rick Wakeman/Brian May concert at the Magma Arte Congress centre. Are any cSers going to the festival/concert?

I was amazed to see both Charlie and Dotty Duke at the Rick Wakeman/Brian May rock concert last night. They stayed for the full length of the concert, which was very enjoyable but very loud at times.

I chatted to Dotty Duke afterwards and she said that she enjoyed it. Other celebrity attendees included Stephen Hawking and Anita Dobson (Brian May's wife). All in all a very enjoyable evening.

All times are CT (US)
