Jackie and I plan on hosting a Southeast space collectors gathering at our house in Guyton, Georgia on Saturday, February 11, 20112. It will start about 10:00 am ET and continue until the last collector leaves.

Guyton is about 30 miles outside historic Savannah and for those who may be a collector and a romantic it would make a great weekend to bring your significant other and make a weekend of it for Valentines Day.

We are easy to get to as we are just a few miles off of the I-16 exits. Also, for those who like to fish, bring a pole as we have a pond in out front yard as well. We are planning for a few free collectable door prizes including a Grumman LM transparency document. Jackie is working on the snack and lunch menu.

Come and bring your collectables for display, trade or sell, or just bring yourself!

Would love to attend, unfortunately, my wife and I will be getting back from an ocean cruise in Florida a day after the planned meet.

Since Guyton is so close to historic Savannah, we both would love visiting the Southeast again along the Georgia sea coast.

Good luck with the space collectors get togther and hopefully lots of folks will be attending. I know there are several space enthusiasts and cS members within Georgia and other nearby states that hopefully can attend.

Perhaps my wife and I could host-sponsor a similar space collectors gathering here on the Florida Space Coast in 2012.

There were a couple of space collector meets here though, but mostly with astrophilatelists, during the 1980s at an older Merritt Island home of mine.

But the first "get together" was during the launch week of Apollo-Soyuz in July 1975. I was just out of high school when dozens of visiting launch viewers were invited for a stopover get together. There were people everyone it seemed all throughout the house, where my parents, twin sis and I were residing at the time.

It was lots of fun in celebrating the last manned Apollo/Saturn launch with such a bash, but it needed to be better organized. We even had people attend that we didn't know nor were invited!

Ken, enjoy the cruise. The 11th was our first thought we shall see what the response is to that date. It may change, keep an eye on this thread for the final date.

"It will continue until the last collector leaves."

If your house/museum is as cool as it appears in the photos, some of us may never leave! Count me in. I have it marked on my calendar.

Fred, just saw your amazing assortment of space memorabilia from the earlier photos that Robert had just provided. I love how you displayed so many different aerospace pieces together throughout a variety of display cases.

But there are two rocket models, inparticular, that I just came across in the pictures from your vast collections.

There were two large vertical Thor/Delta launch vehicle models, many feet long, that were pictured outside your front porch area. I think the same two models were pictured again inside your home, perhaps before they were permanently placed outdoors, it would seem.

For a long time, Fred, I was the original owner of both rocket models!

Just for your own information, in case you would like to know, both were purchased in a Charlie Bell auction many years ago not too far from my home-office here on Florida's Space Coast.

Years later, as I recall, they were given to Donnis Willis as a part of our many trade/purchases throughout the years.

One, or maybe both, of the old Delta rocket models were also the feature of a recent auction storage national television show. Was anyone able to catch the production when it aired a few months or so back?

I'll put it on my calendar, but I won't know for sure until I get my schedule for my airline, around Jan 21st or so.

I've got to sort through a few things on my calendar, I'll let you know soon if I can attend.

But believe me Fred, if there's anyway I can make it I will.

Fred, how far is your house from an airport and can I get a ride?

It is about 20 miles. I don't think Jackie or I would be able to pick you up as we will be preparing for the event. However, the airport is right on I-95 by the I-16 interchange so we maybe able to hook you up with someone coming that way.

If I come, I'll also be begging a ride from the closest airport.

If I come (I'll know around Jan 21st or so), I can give folks a ride from the ATL airport -- might be cheaper to fly in there than Savannah/Hilton Head Int'l. There should be others driving from ATL as well, so there may be a few options.

Looks like Statesboro and SAV are the closest airports to Guyton. Which one is closest to your house?

The Savannah airport would be best.

The Statesboro airport looks to be NE of the city which is further from us than the city itself. We are half way between the two cities. The Savannah airport is NW of the city and would be closer. It would be a better drive to our place as well.

Our cS friend Lou Chinal sent a surprise package to me which arrived yesterday. Since he can't make it to Fred's space collectors gathering he wanted to give all the attendees a cool space collectable. I won't say what it is but I will bring them to the event for Fred to distribute. Thanks Lou, for thinking of us and I know everyone will enjoy the gift.

SCRUBBED! At this time the weekend had to be cancelled. There were just too many folks who wanted to attend and could not, coupled with those who were left we decided that it would be better to reschedule the weekend.

Due to the arrival of the next two new crew members in our growing future flight crew ie two new grandchildren. The earliest date would be in May.

We will let all know as soon as a date is set..

I am both sorry and glad at the same time. Sorry you had to cancel it, yet glad as I hope I might make it in May.

And congrats on the impending arrivals.
